frequently asked

Common questions.

What are the system requirements?

Windows 10 or 11 (64-bit). A modern GPU is recommended — PhazeVox uses DirectML for low-latency real-time inference. CPU-only operation works but produces noticeable lag on older machines. Roughly 4 GB of disk space if you download the full premium catalog.

How do I install PhazeVox?

Download the Windows installer from the Download page, run it, and follow the prompts. The installer is signed; if Windows SmartScreen blocks an early build, click "More info" → "Run anyway."

Why is PhazeVox asking to install something called VB-Cable?

VB-Cable is a free virtual audio device by VB-Audio Software. PhazeVox uses it to route the transformed voice into Discord, Steam, OBS, and any other app that reads from a microphone. We bundle it with PhazeVox so you only install once — VB-Audio retains the copyright and donation prompt during install, both required by their redistribution terms. You only need to install VB-Cable once; PhazeVox auto-detects it on subsequent launches.

Does PhazeVox store my voice or microphone audio?

No. All audio processing happens on your computer. Your microphone audio never leaves your device — we never receive it, store it, or transmit it. See our Privacy Policy for the full breakdown.

How do I cancel my Studio subscription?

Open the desktop app, go to Settings → Account, and click "Cancel subscription." Your access remains active until the end of the current billing period. Full details on the Refund Policy page.

I subscribed to Studio but the premium voices are still locked.

Premium status syncs from our servers when the app is online. Try restarting the app while connected to the internet. If lock badges remain after a minute or two, email us with the email on your account and we will check the subscription record.

Can I bring my own voice model?

Not at the moment. PhazeVox ships with a curated catalog: starter voices free, premium characters via Studio. Every voice in the catalog is tuned for the in-app engine — we don't expose a general model importer because untuned third-party models tend to sound broken in real time. If there's a character you'd like to see, email support@phazevox.com.

A specific voice sounds bad or has artifacts.

Audio quality depends on your microphone, room noise, and the chunk-size setting in the Console. Try the chunk-size chip in the header — smaller chunks reduce lag, larger chunks reduce artifacts during heavy GPU load (e.g. AAA games). The engine also auto-adjusts when it detects sustained overload.

How do I report a bug?

Email support@phazevox.com with a description of the bug, the steps that reproduce it, and your PhazeVox version (Settings → About). If the app crashed, including the timestamp helps us correlate with server logs.
